Suez Canal Convoy & Towage Procedures

Southbound Convoy

Fixed arrival limit time: 2300 hrs LT south of lat. 31°28.7’ N, limited by long. 32°37.43’ E.

Arrivals between 2300–0100 hrs LT may still join the convoy with a surcharge:

  • 5% (max SDR 12,500) for arrivals before midnight
  • 10% (max SDR 25,000) up to 0100 hrs
  • 12% (max SDR 30,000) after 0100 hrs with SCA approval

Group Movement: 0330–0800 hrs LT

Northbound Convoy

Fixed arrival limit time: 2300 hrs LT north of lat. 29°42.8’ N, limited by long. 32°23.1’ E & 32°41.5’ E.

Arrivals between 2300–0100 hrs LT may still join the convoy with a surcharge:

  • 5% (max SDR 12,500) for arrivals before midnight
  • 10% (max SDR 25,000) up to 0100 hrs
  • 12% (max SDR 30,000) after 0100 hrs with SCA approval

Group Movement: 0400–0830 hrs LT

Approval & Toll Estimation

Pegasus Shipping handles special Suez Canal transits with precision, starting coordination weeks or even months in advance.

To obtain Suez Canal Authority approval and toll estimation for towing units, please provide the following details:

  • Towed Unit Particulars: LOA, Beam, Depth, Maximum air draft, Transit draft, Condition, Protrusions, Last transit date (if any), Tonnage certificate (if available), General Arrangement plan, and Stowage plan.
  • Towing Tug Details: LOA, Beam, Depth, Transit draft, Azimuth thruster presence, Last transit date (if any), and Tonnage certificate copy.

Navigation Requirements

Upon arrival, the following must be submitted to the Suez Canal Authority to avoid extra charges or delays:

  • Stern bits suitable for SCA rudder tug use.
  • Number and types of mooring ropes onboard.
  • Towing plan and towing certificate.
  • Confirmation of towed unit’s condition and manning status.
  • Valid original registry certificate available onboard.
